BMW M Team WRT

The BMW M Team WRT is the result of a close partnership between BMW M Motorsport and Belgian racing team WRT (Team WRT), based in the Walloon region of Vieux-Genappe and active for decades in various categories of international GT and prototype racing. With BMW’s entry into the Hypercar class of the FIA World Endurance Championship (WEC), the collaboration was elevated to a new level: Team WRT took on operational responsibility as official factory partner for the deployment of the new BMW M Hybrid V8 prototypes, while BMW M Motorsport provides the technical development and strategic backbone.

A distinctive feature of this cooperation lies in the team’s location itself. Vieux-Genappe, a rather unassuming town in the Belgian province of Walloon Brabant, has developed into one of Europe’s most important centers for professional endurance racing in recent years. From here, WRT coordinates not only the BMW Hypercar program, but also numerous other customer racing and brand cup programs, giving the location a rare dual role as factory base and customer racing hub—a model that is unique in its form within the current WEC field.

The most intense period of success for BMW M Team WRT in the Hypercar class came during the 2024 season, when the team entered the newly created top category of the WEC with its BMW M Hybrid V8. Drivers such as René Rast, Marco Wittmann, Robin Frijns, Dries Vanthoor, Raffaele Marciello, and Sheldon van der Linde formed the core of the factory lineup and gathered important experience and first podium results in this early phase, laying the foundation for further development of the program.

In the current era, BMW M Team WRT is led by Vincent Vosse as team principal, who bridges the gap between the Belgian racing operation and the technical specifications from Munich. The driver pairings for the factory cars continue to rely on the proven mix of experienced GT and prototype specialists, including René Rast, Marco Wittmann, Dries Vanthoor, Robin Frijns, Raffaele Marciello, and Sheldon van der Linde, who rotate on the two Hypercars.

Looking ahead to the 2026 season, the team is continuously working on further development of the BMW M Hybrid V8 to close the gap to the established top teams in the competitive Hypercar class. The combination of BMW’s technical expertise and Team WRT’s operational experience is regarded in the paddock as a solid foundation on which the program is set to further establish itself in the coming years, with the clear objective of consistently fighting for top positions and ultimately for overall success.
