A.J. Foyt Enterprises is one of the most storied racing outfits in American motorsport. The team was founded in December 1965 by A.J. Foyt, then just 30 years old and himself an active driver. The team’s current base is in Speedway, Indiana, right in the vicinity of the legendary Indianapolis Motor Speedway, giving the team a natural proximity to the most important race of the IndyCar season for decades.
A distinctive feature of the team’s history is inseparable from its founder’s name: A.J. Foyt is not just the team owner but one of the greatest legends of American motorsport in his own right, a four-time winner of the Indianapolis 500, winner of the 1967 24 Hours of Le Mans, the 1972 Daytona 500, and a two-time winner of the 24 Hours of Daytona. This extraordinary driving career still shapes the team’s self-image today, as it draws its name, identity, and reputation largely from the achievements of its own founder behind the wheel, a chapter unique in this form in the IndyCar paddock.
The team’s greatest run of success came in the early years of the USAC National Championship, the forerunner series to today’s IndyCar Series. With A.J. Foyt himself behind the wheel, the team claimed the drivers’ titles in 1967, 1975, and 1979 as well as Indianapolis 500 wins in 1967 and 1977. The team also found success in the modern IndyCar era: in 1996 Scott Sharp won the IRL championship for Foyt Enterprises, and the title followed in 1998 with Kenny Bräck, who a year later, in 1999, also won the Indianapolis 500 for the team. The CART years between 1979 and 1995, by contrast, passed without a win, though they are remembered for close moments such as Eddie Cheever’s near miss in 1995.
Today the team is led by Larry Foyt, A.J. Foyt’s youngest son, who gave up his NASCAR driving career to join the team in 2006 and has steered its affairs as team president since 2015. Under his leadership, A.J. Foyt Racing has driven forward structural improvements in recent years and established itself as a fixture of the IndyCar field.
For the 2026 season, A.J. Foyt Racing fields the driver pairing of Santino Ferrucci and Caio Collet, both competing full-time in the NTT IndyCar Series. Collet, who already drew attention with strong results as a rookie in the 2026 season, such as an eleventh-place finish at Mid-Ohio, is expected to help push the team further forward alongside the experienced Ferrucci. With this combination of tradition, family continuity, and an ambitious driver pairing, the team looks optimistically toward the coming season.
