All six drivers stay: Genesis Magma Racing heads into its second Hypercar season with an unchanged line-up. Who drives which car in 2027 is still open.

Genesis Magma Racing is betting on continuity. As the team announced, all six drivers from its debut season will also race for the brand in the FIA WEC in 2027: André Lotterer, Pipo Derani and Mathys Jaubert, who share the number 17 GMR-001 this year, and Mathieu Jaminet, Paul-Loup Chatin and Dani Juncadella from the number 19. Juncadella came first, confirmed as the team's first driver for 2027 on October 17 during the 6 Hours of Barcelona weekend. The other five followed on October 21.

What lies behind the decision

The team supplies the reasoning itself. Team principal Cyril Abiteboul points to the drivers' work both in the races and in the development of the GMR-001: “We're extremely happy with the performance of our drivers this year.” Sporting director Gabriele Tarquini highlights a collaboration that worked from the very start: “Our drivers have worked together incredibly well this season.”

For an endurance team in its first year, that is more than a polite formula. Six drivers who have got to know a new car over a full season carry knowledge of tire behavior, stint lengths and set-up that cannot simply be handed on to newcomers. A team that keeps this knowledge in-house does not have to start from zero again over the winter.

Juncadella's commitment at his home race

For Juncadella, the news came on a special weekend. The Spaniard was confirmed at a Genesis event in central Barcelona, just ahead of his home race. “I'm already massively motivated for next season,” Juncadella said. Tarquini added: “I'm very happy that we can confirm him for 2027.”

A debut season with a clear direction

The record of the first year explains why the team is sticking with its drivers. After the debut in Imola in April, the number 17 scored the team's first world championship points in Spa with eighth place, and in Austin in September it followed up with seventh, the best result so far. In Barcelona, Jaubert lapped in 1:30.166 for Genesis' first Hypercar pole and, at 21, became the youngest pole-sitter in WEC history, while Jaminet put the number 19 third on the grid. A podium is still missing, though, and the season is not over yet: the 6 Hours of Monza from November 6 to 8 remain as the final race.

The line-up of the two cars remains open

The squad stays the same, but not necessarily the split. Genesis only intends to decide who drives which of the two GMR-001s in 2027 before the season opener. This year's driver trios are therefore no given for next season, even though the team carries on with the same group.
