Schubert Motorsport

Schubert Motorsport was founded in 1999 by master automotive technician Torsten Schubert, who won the Autocross European Championship that same year before switching to the German Touring Car Challenge as an active driver. After stepping out of the cockpit, he switched to fielding professional drivers instead, and his driver Markus Gedlich already won a championship title in 2001. Schubert still runs eleven BMW dealerships with around 230 employees, the team has competed under its current name since 2007 and is based at the Motorsport Arena Oschersleben.

In 2012, Schubert Motorsport became a factory-supported BMW customer team, a partnership that continues to this day. The team invested early in professional infrastructure: in 2004 its motorsport division moved into new premises spanning over 7,500 square metres, just a few hundred metres from the circuit, where up to twelve new race cars are built each year alongside its ongoing racing programme.

In 2022, Schubert Motorsport entered the new GT3-based DTM and delivered a dream debut: with BMW factory drivers Sheldon van der Linde and Philipp Eng, the team won both the drivers’ and the teams’ title in its very first season. Team principal Torsten Schubert celebrated the win in his own way, grabbing a vacuum cleaner after the title-clinching race in Hockenheim to sweep up broken champagne glasses, an anecdote that became a symbol of his down-to-earth approach.

2024 brought the next big achievement: as the only team fielding three cars, Schubert Motorsport secured the teams’ title again with René Rast, Sheldon van der Linde and Marco Wittmann, this time by a 35-point margin over runner-up Abt. Rast delivered a tactically astute wet-weather win on slicks at the Norisring, while Wittmann, driving the Schaeffler-liveried car known as the “Green Machine”, remains a fan favourite in the series.

For the 2026 season, Schubert Motorsport is running the new BMW M4 GT3 Evo and has scaled back to two cars again. Behind the wheel are BMW factory drivers René Rast, a three-time DTM champion, and Marco Wittmann, a two-time title winner. The stated goal: bring the drivers’ title back to Oschersleben after 2022 while defending last year’s teams’ title.
