Nicki Thiim was born on 17 April 1989 in Sønderborg, Denmark, the son of DTM icon Kurt Thiim, who won the DTM title in 1986 and took 19 race wins for Mercedes. Nicki began his own motorsport career in karting in 2000 and later won one-make cup titles with Seat (2008) and Porsche (2013).
In 2013 Thiim also won the Nürburgring 24 Hours outright, followed a year later by a class win at the 24 Hours of Le Mans. These results earned him a factory contract with Aston Martin, for whom he went on to compete in the FIA World Endurance Championship, winning the GTE-Pro drivers’ title in 2016 and again in the double 2019/20 season.
In 2022 Thiim made his DTM debut for T3 Motorsport in a Lamborghini Huracán GT3 Evo, with special dispensation from his employer Aston Martin. In 2024 he took his first DTM win at the Norisring in an SSR Lamborghini, on the very track where his father had once won.
2026 marks Thiim’s first DTM season with his own manufacturer, Aston Martin, racing for Comtoyou Racing in the Vantage GT3 Evo. After a strong start to the season with several pole positions and Aston Martin’s first DTM win at the Norisring, the veteran leads the championship at the halfway point and dreams of the title as the crowning achievement of his GT career.
