Dennis Hauger was born on March 17, 2003 in Oslo and grew up in the Norwegian town of Aurskog. His talent for speed showed early: at two years old he sat on a quad, at four he rode cross motorbikes, and at five he began his karting career, winning his first race by age eight. After numerous podium finishes in national races, Hauger made the leap into international karting in 2014 and promptly secured the ROK International title in the Mini category. Further titles followed at the Vega Winter Trophy, the Italian CSAI Championship, as well as in the WSK Champions Cup and Super Masters Series. In 2017, he became the youngest-ever DKM Junior Champion, and a year later repeated this feat in the DKM.
His path into Formula racing began in 2018 in the British F4 Championship for the TRS Arden Junior Team, where he impressed as fourth in the overall standings. In 2019, he switched to Van Amersfoort Racing and dominated the Italian F4 Championship with twelve wins, while finishing as runner-up in the ADAC Formula 4 behind Théo Pourchaire. Via the Euroformula Open, where he briefly filled in for Motopark in 2019, he progressed to the FIA Formula 3 Championship: after a learning season in 2020 with Hitech Grand Prix, Hauger crowned himself 2021 Formula 3 World Champion in PREMA Racing with four wins and nine podiums. From 2022 to 2024 he competed in Formula 2, initially for PREMA Racing, then for MP Motorsport, collecting five wins and multiple podium finishes, including the sprint race in Monaco and the feature race in Baku 2022.
The biggest achievements of his career so far are the 2021 Formula 3 title with PREMA Racing and his triumphant move into American motorsport: in 2025, Hauger won the Indy NXT Championship in his rookie season for Andretti Global, securing the title with six wins, seven poles and eleven podiums from 14 races one race before the season’s end. As a former member of the Red Bull Junior Team from 2018 to 2023, he also progressed through the classic training stations of the Formula 1 system before making the leap across the Atlantic. Already in Formula 4, he had shown in 2019 with the Italian title and runner-up finish in Germany that he ranks among the most consistent talents of his generation.
For the 2026 season, Dennis Hauger enters the IndyCar Series as a full-time driver for Dale Coyne Racing, having laid the foundation for his move to the pinnacle of American Formula racing the previous year with the Indy NXT title. After years in European junior series and Formula 2, the Norwegian now faces the challenge of establishing himself permanently in one of the most competitive racing series in the world. The experience from his championship season at Andretti Global and his reputation as a fast, consistent driver have raised great expectations among fans and observers for his first full IndyCar season.
