The Nashville Superspeedway opened its gates in 2001 in Gladeville near Lebanon, Tennessee, with the aim of bringing world-class motorsport directly to the doorstep of Music City. The opening event was contested by the NASCAR Busch Series, with NASCAR Chairman Bill France Jr. present in person. Cup Series stars like Dale Earnhardt and Bobby Hamilton also made sure not to miss the inauguration in April of that year, underscoring the significance that was placed on the new track from the beginning.

Operator Dover Motorsports made intensive efforts over many years to secure a Cup Series race, but was initially unable to achieve this goal. However, the track took over the Truck Series race in 2009 after the Memphis Raceway Park closed. The real breakthrough came with a surprising announcement: After a decades-long hiatus, NASCAR returned to Middle Tennessee in June 2021 with its premier series, a historic moment for the venue and the starting signal for the facility’s current significance in the racing calendar.

The Nashville Superspeedway presents itself as a 2.140-kilometer tri-oval track with four turns, laid out on a D-shaped concrete surface with progressive banking inclines. This combination of unusual track layout, concrete surface, and rising banking characteristics makes the driving behavior of the cars demanding and equally difficult to predict for drivers and strategists alike. It is precisely this unpredictability that has become the hallmark of the facility and regularly ensures thrilling race action within the close-knit field of the Cup Series.

Since the Cup Series returned to Nashville Superspeedway, six races of the highest NASCAR category have already been held, complemented by numerous other races of the development series and the IndyCar Series, whose championship finale took place here in 2024 and 2025. In 2025, Ryan Blaney secured the victory in the Cup race and thus joined the list of successful drivers at this track. That same year, Denny Hamlin set the track record that stands to this day with a lap time of 0:29.663, underscoring the high speeds that the compact tri-oval track allows.
