Zane Smith

Zane Michael Smith was born on June 9, 1999, and hails from Southern California, where he started his motorsport career in kart racing in 2004. Over five consecutive years, he accumulated championship titles there before moving to Super Late Models via Legends Cars in 2015. That year, he won the World Series of Asphalt, the Pro All Stars Series, and the CARS Tour, and finished second in the prestigious Snowball Derby, a result that underscored his talent for major NASCAR development series early on.

In 2016, Smith first tested an ARCA car with Mason Mitchell Motorsports, but had to cut the season short due to a wakeskating injury and returned for only two races with Venturini Motorsports. In 2017, he took over the full ARCA season at Venturini in car number 55, was added to the NASCAR Next development program, and scored eight top-ten finishes in eleven races before ending the season at MDM Motorsports. In 2018, he moved entirely to MDM, won his first race in just the second event of the season, and made a statement with the closest finish in ARCA history at Talladega. By season’s end, he stood with four wins as vice champion and Rookie of the Year of the ARCA Racing Series 2018.

Smith celebrated his greatest career successes in the Truck Series: In 2020, he made his full-time debut with GMS Racing, won two races, was named Rookie of the Year and Most Popular Driver, and finished the season as vice champion, a result he repeated in 2021. In 2022, he moved to Front Row Motorsports and capped a dominant season with four wins, the Regular Season title, and the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series championship. In 2023, he added wins at Daytona and COTA for FRM. Smith made his Cup Series debut in 2022 as a substitute driver for Front Row Motorsports at Gateway, before competing full-time in 2024 with Spire Motorsports and the number 71, scoring his best Cup result to date with a second-place finish at Nashville Superspeedway.

Since 2025, Smith has been driving for Front Row Motorsports in the Cup Series, piloting the Ford Mustang Dark Horse with the number 38. He remains a full-time driver at FRM for the 2026 season as well, where, following his 2022 Truck Series title, he is now working to establish himself permanently in the Cup Series and build on his strong result from Nashville.
