Pierre Gasly

Pierre Gasly, born on 7 February 1996 in Rouen, comes from a motorsport family: his father was an amateur rally driver, his grandmother a successful karting champion. From the age of seven he shared both a kart track and a school desk with his close friend Anthoine Hubert. Via Formula Renault (Eurocup champion 2013) and the GP2 Series (champion 2016, with Prema), Gasly reached Formula 1 in 2017, making his debut with Toro Rosso.

In 2019 he was promoted to Red Bull Racing but, after mixed results, was demoted again by mid-season. Just days later his childhood friend Anthoine Hubert was killed in a Formula 2 race at Spa-Francorchamps. Despite this double burden, Gasly took his first Formula 1 podium with second place at the following Brazilian Grand Prix, after holding off Lewis Hamilton in a thrilling drag race to the line.

He took his only win to date at the 2020 Italian Grand Prix in Monza, the first French winner since Olivier Panis in 1996. Of that emotional moment he later wrote: “It was my day. It was our day.” Ever since, Gasly has laid flowers at the Raidillon corner, the site of Hubert’s accident, in a quiet gesture before every Belgian Grand Prix.

In 2023 he moved to Alpine alongside Esteban Ocon, with whom he shared a rivalry from their junior racing days. In 2024 the team achieved a historic double podium at the Brazilian Grand Prix, Ocon second and Gasly third. In the difficult 2025 season, Gasly single-handedly scored all 22 points for the team, which finished bottom of the standings. He lives in Milan, speaks fluent Italian and has been a co-owner of French football club FC Versailles since 2024.
