Marcus Armstrong

Marcus Armstrong was born on July 29, 2000, in Christchurch, New Zealand, and today ranks among the most experienced New Zealand drivers in international single-seater racing. His motorsport career began in 2010 in karting, where between 2011 and 2014 he won numerous national titles in New Zealand, including class championships in KartSport NZ. International success in karting eluded him initially, but his consistency was enough to be listed by Motorsport.com in 2016 as one of the most exciting kart talents of the year. As early as 2014, Armstrong made the leap into formula cars in parallel and competed in the New Zealand Formula Ford season.

His real breakthrough came in 2017 when Ferrari brought him into the Driver Academy and he competed for Prema Powerteam in both Italian F4 and ADAC F4. After a cautious season start with several third-place finishes, Armstrong found strong form from Vallelunga onwards and secured the Italian F4 Championship 2017 at the end of the season, while finishing as vice champion in ADAC F4. This was followed by a step up to FIA Formula 3, where he finished fifth in 2018 before becoming vice champion in 2019 behind his Prema teammate Robert Shwartzman. Between 2020 and 2022, Armstrong competed for three years in Formula 2 for ART Grand Prix, DAMS, and Hitech Grand Prix before making the move to North America.

In the IndyCar Series, Armstrong quickly established himself as a fixture. In 2023, he made his debut at Chip Ganassi Racing on street and road courses and was promptly named Rookie of the Year. A year later, in 2024, he expanded his program to include oval races and celebrated his first IndyCar podium with a third-place finish in Detroit. The next step in his career came in 2025 with a move to Meyer Shank Racing, where he achieved his second IndyCar podium the same year and further solidified his position as a consistent points scorer.

In the 2026 season, Marcus Armstrong is competing as a full-time driver for Meyer Shank Racing with Curb-Agajanian. After a solid start with a podium finish and good results in the previous year, the focus now is on building consistency and regularly competing for top finishes. With his experience from Ferrari’s driver development program, three Formula 2 seasons, and now several IndyCar campaigns, Armstrong brings the racing craft needed to establish himself permanently in the upper tier of the series.
