Louis James Foster was born on July 27, 2003 in Great Britain and comes from a motorsport family: his father Nick Foster was himself active as a driver in the British Touring Car Championship. Louis Foster found his path into motorsport at age nine through karting, where he won championships on local circuits Camberley and Forest Edge, in 2013 at Camberley and in 2015 at Forest Edge. These early successes laid the foundation for his transition to formula racing.
Via the Ginetta Junior Championship, which he entered in 2017 with Elite Motorsport and where he shone as vice champion and Rookie Champion in 2018, Foster’s path led in 2019 to the F4 British Championship with Double R Racing, where he finished third. In 2020 came his rise to the BRDC British F3 Championship, also with Double R Racing, which he completed as overall third and Rookie Champion. After a year in the Euroformula Open 2021 with CryptoTower Racing, which he finished as vice champion, Foster took the leap across the Atlantic in 2022 into the American junior racing ladder.
In North America, Foster quickly developed into one of the most talented young drivers in the IndyCar junior series. Already in his first season 2022, he secured the title in the Indy Pro 2000 Championship with Exclusive Autosport. Following a strong rookie year 2023 in the Indy NXT with two wins, came the big breakthrough in 2024: with Andretti Global, Foster dominantly won the Indy NXT title. In 2025 he finally made his debut in the NTT IndyCar Series for Rahal Letterman Lanigan Racing in the No. 45 Honda and was rewarded with the IndyCar Rookie of the Year title and his first pole position at Road America.
For the 2026 season, Louis Foster remains a permanent part of the driver roster of Rahal Letterman Lanigan Racing in the NTT IndyCar Series. Following his successful rookie year, attention now turns to consolidating his position in the field and the next step in his development within the established team. With his experience from the junior series and the momentum from his strong debut season, Foster is regarded as one of the drivers expected to deliver more consistent results and further podium finishes in the coming season.
