José María López

José María López was born in Argentina and grew up in a country where motorsport is deeply rooted in the culture. Like many South American drivers, he gained his first experience in kart racing before making the leap into Argentine Formula series. There he quickly stood out through consistent speed and a pronounced understanding of racing, which opened the door to international programs for him.

Via Formula 3 and various GT3 outings, López steadily worked his way up and eventually established himself in the World Touring Car Championship WTCC, where he was able to prove his driving talent at the highest level. In parallel, he built a reputation as a versatile driver at home both in heavy touring cars and GT3 vehicles, which later facilitated his access to the FIA WEC and prototype classes.

López collected the greatest successes of his career in two different disciplines. In the WTCC, he dominated over several years and secured driver titles in 2014, 2015, and 2016, a streak that marked him as one of the most consistent touring car drivers of his generation. After switching to the FIA WEC, the next major career step followed: in 2019/20 and again in 2021, he crowned himself driver world champion of the long-distance championship, proving that his success was in no way limited to one vehicle category.

In the 2026 season, López continues his career in the FIA WEC, where he continues to count among the most experienced and successful drivers in the field. With his team, he is once again aiming for podium finishes and top results to build on the successes of recent years. His wealth of experience from WTCC and WEC titles makes him a key building block for his team’s overall project, which is also competing for top positions in the standings this season.
