Graham Rahal

Graham Robert Rahal was born on January 4, 1989, in the USA and grew up as the son of Bobby Rahal, winner of the 1986 Indianapolis 500. Motorsport was thus, in a sense, in his genes, and he began his career in karting at an early age before transitioning to open-wheel racing at around 15 years old. As early as 2005, he made headlines: At the SCCA National Championship Runoffs, he won the Formula Atlantic class at Mid-Ohio and became the youngest national champion in SCCA history at age 16, exactly 30 years after his father won the same title.

His rise through the North American junior series continued rapidly. In 2006, Rahal moved to the Champ Car Atlantic Series, where he won five races and finished as vice champion. He also gained international experience as a guest driver for A1 Team Lebanon in the A1 Grand Prix Series. In 2007 came the jump to the Champ Car World Series with Newman/Haas/Lanigan Racing alongside Sébastien Bourdais, where he became the series’ youngest podium finisher. With the merger into the unified IndyCar Series in 2008, he debuted in the new top league and won at his season-opening race, the Honda Grand Prix of St. Petersburg, at just 19 years old, making him the youngest race winner in IndyCar history.

Among the greatest achievements of his career, in addition to this historic 2008 debut victory, is the overall win at the 24 Hours of Daytona in 2011, which he secured for Chip Ganassi Racing alongside Scott Dixon, Dario Franchitti, and Jamie McMurray. In the IndyCar Series itself, Rahal has now recorded six race wins, including the MAVTV 500 in Fontana and the Honda Indy 200 in Mid-Ohio, both in 2015, the Firestone 600 in Texas in 2016, and both rounds of the Detroit Grand Prix in 2017. His best overall finish in the IndyCar Series championship came in 2015 with fourth place, the most successful championship year of his career so far.

In the 2026 season, Graham Rahal continues as a full-time driver for Rahal Letterman Lanigan Racing, the team in which his father Bobby Rahal is significantly involved and with which he has been firmly connected for many years. After years in the midfield of the IndyCar Series, his goal remains clear: to build on previous successes like the strong 2015 season and to regularly compete for podium finishes and wins again. For the team’s fans and the Rahal brand, he remains one of the most consistent and well-known figures in the IndyCar driver field in 2026.
