Daniel Alejandro Suárez Garza was born on January 7, 1992, in Monterrey in the Mexican state of Nuevo León. His motorsports career began as early as 2002 in kart racing, where he quickly made a name for himself and won the Mexican karting championship in 2004 and 2007. In 2008, he moved up to the Mini-Stocks category of the NASCAR Mexico Series and became the youngest winner in the series’ history with a race victory, an early testament to his talent.
In 2010, Suárez stepped up to the NASCAR Mexico Series for Telcel Racing and immediately won Rookie of the Year. Through the K&N Pro Series East, which he entered in 2011, and NASCAR’s Drive-for-Diversity program, he achieved his first series victory in Columbus in 2013, complemented by a third-place finish in the overall standings and the vice championship in the Toyota Series. He made his Nationwide Series debut for Joe Gibbs Racing in 2014 in Richmond, and a year later came his full-time entry into the Xfinity Series in the No. 18 Toyota, which he concluded as Rookie of the Year. In 2017, he finally reached the NASCAR Cup Series, taking over the No. 19 for Joe Gibbs Racing, filling the seat left by retiring Carl Edwards.
Suárez celebrated his biggest career success in 2016, when he won the Xfinity Series championship in the No. 19 Toyota for Joe Gibbs Racing with three season wins and the decisive victory in the Homestead-Miami finale, becoming the first foreign-born driver ever to win a championship in one of NASCAR’s three national top series. On June 12, 2022, he made history again at Trackhouse Racing in the No. 99 Chevrolet at Sonoma, becoming the first Mexican driver to win a Cup Series race, complemented by a top-ten finish in the championship at season’s end. In 2024, he delivered another highlight in Atlanta with a three-way photo finish against Ryan Blaney and Kyle Busch, decided by just 0.003 seconds, before in 2026 he expanded his collection of prestigious victories with a win in the Coca-Cola 600 at Charlotte, the longest race on the NASCAR calendar.
In the 2026 season, Suárez pilots the No. 7 Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 as a full-time driver for Spire Motorsports, after previously carrying the colors of Trackhouse Racing for five years. With the Coca-Cola 600 victory right at the start of the season, he underscored that he can seamlessly continue his success with his new team. For the remainder of the year, his goal is to secure a safe qualification for the playoffs and confirm his role as one of the most experienced and successful internationally-minded drivers in the NASCAR Cup field.
