Christian Lundgaard was born on July 23, 2001 in Denmark and began his motorsport career in 2012 in kart racing, where he quickly made a name for himself across Europe. The greatest success of these early years was winning the CIK-FIA Karting European Championship in 2015, which established him as one of the most promising young talents of his generation and paved the way into formula racing.
In 2017, Lundgaard took the leap into single-seaters with MP Motorsport and immediately scored a double success: he secured both the SMP F4 Championship and the Spanish F4 Championship in the same year. As a member of the Alpine Academy, which he belonged to from 2017 to 2022, he continued through the Formula Renault Eurocup to ART Grand Prix, where he finished sixth in FIA Formula 3 in 2019 and seventh overall in Formula 2 in 2020 with two wins. After a more challenging 2021 season, he moved to North America and entered the IndyCar Series in 2022 with Rahal Letterman Lanigan Racing.
In the IndyCar Series, Lundgaard quickly established himself as a mainstay: in 2022 he was named Rookie of the Year with RLL, and in 2023 he celebrated his first race win at the Honda Indy Toronto, becoming the first Danish driver ever to win an IndyCar race. Since switching to Arrow McLaren, he has continued his winning streak and has scored two additional race wins with the Sonsio Grand Prix and the XPEL Grand Prix at Road America in 2026, further solidifying his position in the field.
In the 2026 season, Lundgaard will start as a full-time driver for Arrow McLaren and will once again pilot the Chevrolet with starting number 7. Following recent wins at the Sonsio Grand Prix and the XPEL Grand Prix at Road America, the focus is now on achieving consistent top positions in the championship standings. With the experience from now several full IndyCar seasons and the momentum from his current successes, the Dane is among the drivers who want to compete for top positions this season.
