Lucas Auer

Lucas Auer was born on 11 September 1994 in St. Johann in Tirol and is the nephew of former Formula 1 driver Gerhard Berger. He began his motorsport career in karting in 2001 and won the JK Racing Asia Series in 2011, before finishing runner-up as best rookie in the German Formula 3 Cup in 2012.

In 2015 Auer joined the DTM with ART Grand Prix, finishing the season as the weakest-placed Mercedes driver. Over the years, though, he established himself as one of the series’ most successful drivers: he took a race win with BMW in 2020, returned to Mercedes-AMG in 2021, and finished runner-up with Winward in 2022.

In 2023 Auer suffered a serious accident with a spinal fracture in testing for the 24 Hours of Daytona, but came back and, alongside teammate Maro Engel, claimed the GT World Challenge Europe title in 2024, winning both the Sprint Cup and the overall championship. In 2025 he moved to Mercedes-AMG Team Landgraf and delivered his strongest DTM season yet with two wins, only to lose the title to Ayhancan Güven by four points in the final race.

With nine DTM wins in total, Auer ranks among the most successful active drivers in the series. In 2026 he enters his eleventh DTM season with Landgraf, taking a fresh run at the title that has eluded him through two runner-up finishes.
