Marco Mapelli

Marco Mapelli, born on 1 August 1987 in Seregno in northern Italy, first sat in a kart in 1997 and worked his way up through Italian Formula Renault and Formula 3. In the late 2000s he switched to GT racing and won the GTC class of the Italian GT Sprint Championship in 2010. Runner-up in the 2011 Porsche Carrera Cup Italia, he went on to spend two years in the International GT Open and four years in Italian GT, finishing runner-up twice.

Lamborghini signed him as a factory driver in 2017. After early results including a win in ADAC GT Masters and podiums in Blancpain GT Series Asia, Mapelli moved to FFF Racing Team in 2019 and, alongside Andrea Caldarelli, swept all three GT World Challenge Europe titles: overall, Endurance Cup and Sprint Cup, a feat nobody has repeated since. In 2018 he also set a Nürburgring Nordschleife lap record in the Lamborghini Aventador SVJ.

Mapelli remained a mainstay of the Lamborghini roster in the following years, with podiums at the 24 Hours of Daytona and 12 Hours of Sebring, and in 2024 narrowly missed defending the title. Away from the track, the media-shy Italian played a central role in developing the new Lamborghini Temerario GT3, aiming to make the car more driveable and accessible than its predecessor.

For the 2026 season the 38-year-old makes his DTM debut as a factory driver with Abt Sportsline, which now fields two Lamborghini factory drivers. Mapelli already knows the German DTM tracks from ADAC GT Masters, where he won four races.
