B. J. McLeod

Burton Darwin “B. J.” McLeod Jr. was born on November 17, 1983, in the United States and grew up in the southeastern part of the country, where he sat on an ATV at age three and switched to kart racing at five. His talent was recognized early: In August 1997, at just 13 years old, he became the youngest driver to ever win a Super Late Model race in the United States at Orlando Speed World, and at that time he was also the youngest participant ever in an American Speed Association event.

McLeod worked his way up through the Super Late Model scene and the Hooters Pro Cup Series in the southeastern United States, including two Pro Cup starts in 2000 at Hickory and at USA International Speedway, as well as an ASA National Tour outing in 2001 for Herzog Motorsports. He made his NASCAR debut in one of the three national top series in 2010 in the Camping World Truck Series at Martinsville for Germain Racing, starting from position 23 and finishing 17th. He then spent years with varying, mostly smaller teams before making his debut in both the Xfinity Series and the NASCAR Cup Series in 2015, the latter at the New Hampshire race.

McLeod celebrated his greatest career achievements outside the NASCAR top series: In 2010, he secured the Super Late Model title at the prestigious World Series of Asphalt at New Smyrna Speedway, in 2006 he became champion of the newly created Bright House Challenge Series, and back in 2004 he won the famous Red Eye 100 race also at New Smyrna. Overall, he has more than 100 Super Late Model victories and 18 karting titles with over 300 wins in the junior categories. As a team owner, he founded B. J. McLeod Motorsports in 2011 for the Xfinity Series and in 2021 together with Joe Falk the Cup team Live Fast Motorsports.

In the 2026 season, McLeod continues as a full-time driver for his own team Live Fast Motorsports and pilots the No. 78 Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 in the NASCAR Cup Series, though still in a part-time capacity. In parallel, he remains active in the NASCAR O’Reilly Auto Parts Series, where he drives the No. 92 Chevrolet Camaro SS for DGM Racing in cooperation with Jesse Iwuji Motorsports. For McLeod, this once again means the dual role of driver and team principal, with the goal of continuing to establish Live Fast Motorsports as a small but independent Cup team.
