Haas Factory Team

The history of Haas Factory Team dates back to 2002, when Gene Haas, founder of tooling machine manufacturer Haas Automation, launched his first own team, Haas CNC Racing, in the NASCAR Cup Series. In 2009, he joined forces with three-time champion Tony Stewart, who took a 50 percent stake in the organization. This fusion gave birth to Stewart-Haas Racing, which quickly developed into one of the most formidable forces in American stock car racing.

The team wrote a special chapter at its location in Kannapolis, North Carolina, just about 10 miles north of Charlotte Motor Speedway. At 6001 Haas Way, not only the Cup team resides, but also the U.S. headquarters of Haas F1 Team, the Formula 1 organization from the same corporate group. While both racing operations act as independent units, they share the campus that Stewart-Haas Racing once built and that the newly formed Haas Factory Team took over after its closure at the end of 2024.

The most successful phase of the team’s history falls in the era of Stewart-Haas Racing. In 2011, Tony Stewart secured the driver championship himself at the wheel and at the same time brought the organization its first constructors’ title. Three years later, in 2014, Kevin Harvick repeated this feat and won the championship, while the team once again emerged as the season’s top constructor. These two titles remain to this day the benchmarks by which each new generation at the Kannapolis facility measures itself.

After Stewart-Haas Racing closed at the end of the 2024 season, Gene Haas formed Haas Factory Team from a remaining charter, which made its debut in the Cup Series in 2025. Team President Joe Custer has been at the helm since then, while Cole Custer carries the responsibility in the cockpit of the No. 41. For the 2026 season, the team is repositioning itself technically: After years with Ford, the team switches to Chevrolet and enters into a technical alliance with Hendrick Motorsports, having previously collaborated with RFK Racing. The brand change also marks a return to Chevrolet, with which Gene Haas once began his NASCAR career before Stewart-Haas Racing switched to Ford in 2017.
