From newcomer in 2021 to three-car team with championship ambitions: the story of Trackhouse Racing around founder Justin Marks.

Trackhouse Racing was founded in August 2020 by Justin Marks, a former NASCAR Cup Series driver and team owner with ties to the World of Outlaws and the K&N Pro Series East. After Leavine Family Racing had decided to sell its assets, which ultimately went to Spire Motorsports, Marks chose to build a team of his own. He received initial support from Ty Norris, who had previously worked at Dale Earnhardt Incorporated. As early as 2021, Trackhouse made its debut at the Daytona 500, initially operating closely with Richard Childress Racing and sharing the latter’s campus in Welcome, North Carolina.

A distinctive aspect of the team’s history is the leap from leasing a charter to owning one outright: in June 2021, Marks purchased all of Chip Ganassi Racing’s NASCAR assets along with two charter positions. With this acquisition, the team also moved physically to the former CGR facility in Concord, North Carolina, where Trackhouse is still based today. Equally distinctive was the idea behind PROJECT91, a standalone entry that allowed international racing drivers like Formula 1 World Champion Kimi Räikkönen to occasionally take a shot at the NASCAR Cup Series—a concept that gave the team its unconventional, culturally open character.

The most successful phase so far began in 2022, the first year as a two-car team with Daniel Suarez and Ross Chastain. Chastain scored the team’s first Cup Series win in March of that year at Circuit of the Americas and followed up at Talladega before saving his championship hopes with the now-viral wall ride at Martinsville. Suarez, meanwhile, won at Sonoma and became the first Mexican-born driver to win a Cup Series race. Shane van Gisbergen set another milestone in 2023 when he won in the PROJECT91 car on his NASCAR debut at the Chicago Street Course, becoming the first driver in sixty years to win in his very first Cup Series race.

Van Gisbergen’s success led to a full-time move to the team, which by then was also active beyond the Cup Series in MotoGP and IMSA. Since July 2025, Todd Meredith, previously COO at Joe Gibbs Racing, has overseen day-to-day operations as President of Racing Operations, while Justin Marks, as founder and Team Principal, sets the strategic direction. Following Pitbull’s exit as co-owner in February 2025, the ownership structure now rests with Trackhouse Entertainment Group headed by Marks and the Avenue Sports Fund.

For the 2026 season, Trackhouse is fielding three full-time Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 entries: Shane van Gisbergen in the No. 97, Ross Chastain in the No. 1, and rising talent Connor Zilisch in the No. 88, who has previously competed for the team in Xfinity, Trucks, and other series. With this driver lineup combining established speed, tactical toughness, and emerging talent, the team aims to build on the success of the post-Ganassi acquisition years and continue strengthening its position at the top of the Cup Series.
