The Coronado Street Course, home of the Anduril 250, celebrated its debut in June 2026 and made history instantly: it is the first street course designed by NASCAR itself within an active U.S. military base. The course is located on Naval Base Coronado, specifically at Naval Air Station North Island in San Diego, and was created to coincide with the 250th anniversary of the U.S. Navy, which is also reflected in the race’s name.

As the 17th race of the 2026 NASCAR Cup Series season, the Anduril 250 marks one of the most unusual events on the calendar. Over 75 laps, drivers battle on a temporary street course that winds between hangars, taxiways, and San Diego Bay. The military setting, complete with aircraft carriers in the background, gives the race a unique character within the entire series.

At 5.47 kilometers long with 16 turns, the Coronado Street Course ranks among the longest tracks in NASCAR history, specifically the third-longest overall. Drivers initially compared the layout to the Chicago Street Course but quickly discovered that San Diego is bumpier and frequently alternates between wide and narrow sections. Notable features include significant elevation changes and a spot between turns one and two where vehicles can actually get airborne. The lap begins with a gentle right kink, followed by a sharp 90-degree left turn, before the rest of the tight and technically challenging course unfolds.

Since San Diego joined the calendar only in 2026, the winners’ history is naturally still young, but the track has already set a lasting benchmark. Kevin Magnussen holds the official track record with a time of 2:12.485 from the inaugural 2026 race, a mark that was particularly difficult to achieve given the bumpy surface and variable track layout. For future editions of the Anduril 250, this very combination of speed, tightness, and unpredictable surface undulations should continue to provide exciting restarts and intense position battles.
