The Texas Motor Speedway in Fort Worth ranks among the younger major construction projects in the American racing landscape. Construction work began in 1995 on the initiative of Bruton Smith, who wanted to create another milestone for his Speedway Motorsports Inc. with the project. By 1996, the facility was completed, allowing the first races to be held in 1997. In 2025, the track celebrated the 30th anniversary of its construction start, a testament to how quickly the course developed into one of the premier destinations in North American motorsports.

From the beginning, Texas Motor Speedway was operated by Bruton Smith’s company Speedway Motorsports Inc., which built one of the largest superspeedways of its time. This ownership structure remained consistent over the decades and ensured continuous investment in infrastructure and spectator experience. The track quickly became an integral part of the NASCAR calendar and attracted a broad audience with its size and high-banked turns, which expected the typical Texas-sized generosity on the racing surface as well.

The layout is a classic, high-banked quad-oval course with a length of 2.414 miles and four characteristic turns that demand high speeds from drivers while simultaneously requiring demanding grip management. In addition to the oval, the facility also features a rarely used road course that has seen little racing action since an ALMS race in 2001. For the Cup Series, however, the superspeedway oval remains the centerpiece, with its high-banked turns regularly providing thrilling position battles and high racing speeds.

Since 2005, the Texas Boot Trophy has been awarded at the autumn Cup race, a hand-crafted boot trophy that became the defining symbol of the venue. Notable victories include Kevin Harvick’s win in the AAA Texas 500 in 2018, his second triumph at this track and his 45th career victory overall. Most recently, Joey Logano prevailed in 2025, joining the list of renowned winners who have shaped Texas Motor Speedway over the years and underscored its reputation as one of the most spectacular destinations on the NASCAR Cup Series calendar.
