Maro Engel

Maro Engel was born on 27 August 1985 in Munich and now lives in Monaco. After a career in karting he moved into single-seaters and finished runner-up in the 2007 British Formula 3 Championship, before joining Mercedes in the DTM in 2008, where he drove for Mücke Motorsport until 2011.

After leaving the DTM, Engel built an impressive record in Mercedes-AMG’s GT3 customer racing programme: in 2015 he became world champion at the very first running of the newly created FIA GT World Cup in Macau, in 2016 he won the Nürburgring 24 Hours outright, and in 2018 the Suzuka 10 Hours. Four wins at the Macau Grand Prix in total (2014, 2015, 2022, 2024) underline his mastery of the demanding Guia Circuit, where he claimed his second FIA GT World Cup title in 2024.

Between 2016 and 2018 Engel also spent two seasons in the FIA Formula E Championship with Venturi. Since 2019 he has been a full-time DTM driver for Mercedes-AMG, and since 2024 for Winward Racing, with whom he finished third overall in each of the past two seasons.

2026 marks Engel’s tenth DTM season, and after two strong years he is now targeting the title itself. In parallel, he remains a fixture on the GT3 world stage: alongside teammate Lucas Auer, he won both the Sprint Cup and the overall GT World Challenge Europe title in 2024.
