Chase Elliott was born on November 28, 1995, in the USA and grew up in a family deeply rooted in American motorsport. His father Bill Elliott won the Winston Cup Series in 1988 and was inducted into the NASCAR Hall of Fame in 2015, making the Elliotts one of several renowned father-son duos in the series’ history, alongside Lee and Richard Petty or Dale Earnhardt and Dale Earnhardt Jr. Even as a teenager, Chase was in the spotlight: In 2009, at just thirteen years old, Sports Illustrated featured him alongside future greats like Jordan Spieth as an up-and-coming sports talent.
Before Elliott moved to NASCAR’s developmental series, he enjoyed extraordinarily successful years in Late-Model Racing. He won the Snowball Derby in 2011 and 2015, the Winchester 400 in 2010, the World Crown 300 in 2012, and the All American 400 in 2013, completing the unofficial Grand Slam of this discipline, supplemented by three wins in the Snowflake 100 (2010, 2012, 2013). In 2014, Elliott achieved his breakthrough in the NASCAR Nationwide Series: he was named Rookie of the Year and became the youngest champion in the history of a national NASCAR series. In 2016, he made the move to the Cup Series, taking over the historic number 24 car for Hendrick Motorsports, previously driven by Jeff Gordon, and was promptly named Rookie of the Year.
The greatest successes of his career followed in the years after. In 2018, Elliott switched to the NAPA Auto Parts-sponsored number 9, in homage to his father’s designation, and celebrated his first Cup Series victory on the Watkins Glen road course. In 2020, he crowned himself NASCAR Cup Series Champion, the 13th title in Hendrick Motorsports history and the first since 2016, placing himself as the third father-son duo alongside the Pettys and the Jarretts in the series’ championship history. Added to this are achievements such as winning the All-Star Race in 2020 at Bristol and the Cook Out Clash in 2025 at Bowman Gray Stadium, a total of 23 additional Cup wins, of which seven on road courses, eight consecutive recognitions as the series’ most popular driver, and his mention among NASCAR’s 75 greatest drivers in 2023.
In the 2026 season, Chase Elliott continues as a full-time driver for Hendrick Motorsports, one of the most historic and successful teams in the NASCAR Cup Series. After years at the top of the championship and consistently high performance, the focus turns once again to further victories and a successful championship defense in the playoff format, as Elliott seeks to continue reinforcing his status as one of the most popular and consistent drivers in the field.
