Kansas Speedway in Kansas City, Kansas, opened its gates in 2001 and quickly established itself as one of the most modern facilities in American motorsports. In its inaugural season, the track welcomed the NASCAR Cup Series and became a permanent fixture on the racing calendar. Since then, the Cup Series, IndyCar, and IMSA SportsCar Championship have all made stops at the venue, underscoring the versatility of the facility and establishing its reputation as a premier destination for different racing series.

As a tri-oval circuit with a length of 2.414 kilometers, Kansas Speedway ranks among the so-called intermediate speedways, a category of ovals that fall between short bullrings and superspeedways. Four turns define the layout, with the characteristic banking of roughly 20 degrees in the corners enabling high speeds while demanding enormous precision from drivers on braking. This combination of speed and technique makes the track a genuine challenge for suspension setup and tire management.

An important chapter in the track’s history began in 2011 when a second annual Cup race was introduced in Kansas. Brad Keselowski won this inaugural event in a nail-biting finish ahead of Dale Earnhardt Jr., relying on a clever fuel-saving strategy—a race outcome that stands to this day as a textbook example of tactical driving. The following year, the event was moved to April to allow sufficient time for a comprehensive reconfiguration of the track geometry, a renovation that noticeably altered the circuit’s handling characteristics and opened up new racing lines through the corners.

The list of winners reads like a who’s who of the NASCAR scene. Kevin Harvick has held the lap record on the oval since 2014, proof of the high speeds the track demands of its drivers. At the most recent running of the AdventHealth 400, Chase Elliott prevailed in 2025, adding his name to the long list of winners at Kansas Speedway—yet another example of the unpredictability and excitement this track delivers year after year, making it a permanent highlight of the Cup season.
