Romain Grosjean

Romain David Jeremie Grosjean was born on April 17, 1986 in Geneva and grew up there as the son of a Swiss father and a French mother. He is the grandson of Olympic skier Fernand Grosjean. After entering karting, Grosjean switched to formula racing under a Swiss license in 2003 and promptly won the Formula Renault 1.6 in Switzerland. In 2004, he joined SG Formula in the French Formula Renault 2.0, where he dominated the championship in 2005 with ten wins from 16 races.

His rise continued seamlessly: in 2007, Grosjean clinched the Formula 3 Euroseries title in a battle with Sébastien Buemi at ASM. In 2008, he moved to GP2 Series with ART Grand Prix, finished fourth in the overall standings, and additionally won the GP2 Asia Series. As a member of the Renault Sport Academy, he made his Formula 1 debut at the Grand Prix of Europe in 2009 as a substitute for Nelson Piquet Jr. After a return to junior series, where he won the Auto GP Series in 2010 as well as the GP2 Asia Series again, he crowned his achievements in 2011 with DAMS by winning the GP2 Series championship and thus returned to Formula 1 for good.

In Formula 1, Grosjean raced between 2012 and 2020 for Lotus and later Haas, alongside drivers including Kimi Räikkönen, Pastor Maldonado, and Kevin Magnussen. His first podium finish came in 2012 in Bahrain, and his best championship year was 2013 with seventh place and six further podiums for Lotus. He also became internationally known for the serious fire accident at the Grand Prix of Bahrain in 2020, which he survived thanks to the Halo system. In 2021, Grosjean switched to the IndyCar Series with Dale Coyne Racing and celebrated his first pole position and his first podium in the series at the Grand Prix of Indianapolis; further podium finishes followed in 2022 and 2023 with Andretti. After a season in 2024 with Juncos Hollinger Racing, he took the leap to Lamborghini in the IMSA SportsCar Championship in 2025.

For the 2026 season, Romain Grosjean now returns as a full-time driver to Dale Coyne Racing in the IndyCar Series, the team with which he once celebrated his first successes in North America. After his years in Formula 1, the IndyCar Series, and most recently in Lamborghini’s sports car program, the Geneva-based driver brings a wealth of experience to this new IndyCar chapter. Fans can look forward to seeing whether he can build on his previous podium results and lead Dale Coyne Racing back to the front of the field.
