Mick Schumacher

Mick Schumacher was born on March 22, 1999 in Genolier, Switzerland, and grew up in Vufflens-le-Château and Gland. As the son of Formula 1 record world champion Michael Schumacher and Corinna Schumacher, as well as nephew of Ralf Schumacher, he carried a heavy name from the start, but deliberately competed under the pseudonyms Mick Betsch and Mick Junior during his early karting years to be able to race away from the media spotlight. In 2014, he achieved his breakthrough in junior karting: he finished as vice-champion in both the CIK-FIA World KF-Junior Championship and the European KF-Junior Championship behind Enaam Ahmed.

The move to junior formula racing began in 2015. In the ADAC Formula 4 and Italian Formula 4, Schumacher became vice-champion with Prema Powerteam in 2016, and after a third-place finish in the MRF Challenge Championship, he moved up to the FIA Formula 3 European Championship. Following a strong rookie season in 2017 with twelfth place and a podium finish, he won the championship in 2018 with Team Prema Theodore Racing, recording eight victories, seven pole positions, and 14 podium finishes, including a streak of five consecutive wins at Spa, the Nürburgring, and the Red Bull Ring.

The next major career step was the FIA Formula 2 Championship, which Schumacher entered in 2019 and completed his rookie season with a victory in Hungary. In 2020, he crowned himself Formula 2 champion again with Prema Racing, recording two race wins and ten podium finishes ahead of Callum Ilott, which enabled him to make the jump to Formula 1 with Haas in 2021. He drove there until 2022 alongside Nikita Mazepin and later Kevin Magnussen, with his sixth-place finish at the Austrian Grand Prix in 2022 as his career best result. After reserve roles at Mercedes and McLaren, he switched to Alpine in 2024 for the FIA World Endurance Championship, where he achieved his first podium at the 6 Hours of Fuji, followed by additional podium finishes in 2025 at Imola and Spa-Francorchamps.

For the 2026 season, Mick Schumacher has taken on a new challenge and switched to Rahal Letterman Lanigan Racing as a full-time driver in the IndyCar Series, piloting the Dallara-Honda car with the number 47. Following his stints in Formula 1 and the World Endurance Championship, this step marks his entry into one of North America’s most storied racing series and gives the German the opportunity to prove his international experience from Formula 3, Formula 2, Formula 1, and WEC in a new environment.
